COVID-19 continues to hit members of Congress. On Tuesday, U.S. Representative Jeff Fortenberry has tested positive for coronavirus.
“Though I have been vaccinated and took every precaution to avoid infection, I have contracted a moderate case of COVID-19. Per House protocol, I will be recuperating and working from home, and will vote by proxy. As always, my excellent team is ready and available to serve the needs of all Nebraskans,” Fortenberry said in a statement.
“In an odd coincidence, my survey to constituents last week was on COVID. The results of the survey can be found here.”
Fortenberry is the latest member of Congress to test positive for COVID-19. Congressional lawmakers have accounted for at least 50 new cases of coronavirus. Most recently, Reps. David Trone and Diana DeGette tested positive for the virus. As a result, Capitol physician Brian Monahan says the seven-day average positivity rate on Capitol Hill has risen from less than 1% to greater than 13%.
