Lightweight boxing is coming to Accra, Ghana next month. Former world champions Tevin Farmer and Mickey Bey have announced that they will participate in a 10-round bout on May 21, 2022 in the Accra Sports Center.
Farmer is a savvy veteran from the City of Brotherly Love who recently lost a close bout to title challenge Joseph Diaz Jr. Despite the setback, he is confident that taking down Bey will get him on the right track.
“A win against Mickey Bey will put me right back in the mix to fight for a world title at lightweight,” Farmer told Boxing Scene.
“Everything is riding on this bout, and I can’t wait to get in the ring and do what I do best and that’s fight. We both got our backs against the wall so this makes for a great night of boxing, and I assure you, this will be a war.”
Similar to Farmer, Bey is also seeking one more shot at the title. He last fought in late 2019 against current undisputed lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. Since then, he has dabbled in training, but he is not done with his career just yet. Bey believes that one win could put him back in the title picture.
“I am excited this bout came together, it was a lot of hard work from both Tevin and myself, and we’re bringing world-class boxing to Africa,” Bey said, according to Boxing Scene.
“This will be a global event that features elite fighters battling in a huge sporting venue that promises to provide an amazing atmosphere. Tevin is one of the best fighters I could face, and when other fights fell out for him, I jumped at the chance to fight him.”
