We’re on the verge of experiencing some of the most anticipated television events of the year. HBO is gearing up to release the final season of Game of Thrones. Insecure is set to return later this year and She’s Gotta Have It will hit Netflix in May. Not to mention, NBC’s This Is Us is gearing up for a great season finale and Ava DuVernay’s Central Park Five mini series will hit the internet in the not too distant future. Above all else, On My Block is set to return for a highly anticipated second season at the end of March. With all of this going on, it’s easy to miss incredible new shows like Epix’s Godfather of Harlem.
Today, Epix released the first trailer for the Forest Whitaker led series, Godfather of Harlem. In the trailer, we get our first glimpse of Forest Whitaker playing the role of Bumpy Johnson, an American Mob Boss from Harlem who rose to power in the 1960’s. Forest Whitaker returns from a stint in prison to take back his neighborhood while forging a partnership with Malcolm X along the way. As described by Epix, “Godfather of Harlem is inspired by the story of infamous crime boss Bumpy Johnson (Whitaker), who in the early 1960s returned from ten years in prison to find the neighborhood he once ruled in shambles. With the streets controlled by the Italian mob, Bumpy must take on the Genovese crime family to regain control.”
The new drama will last for ten episodes and premiere this fall.
