Game of Thrones fans, winter is coming. The final season of the mega-popular HBO show will debut in April of 2019 and that means it’s time to start brushing up on your Thrones knowledge. Trust me, you’ll need it. The first details of the final season have been revealed and if the premiere is any indication, there will be a lot of call backs to previous seasons.
In an exclusive breakdown with HBO, EW learned:
As part of their much more extensive set visit report, EW has revealed that season 8 begins with an episode that is chock-full of callbacks to the show’s pilot, starting with the arrival of Daeny’s army – which will intentionally echo that of King Robert’s forces making their way to Winterfell, back in the show’s first episode.
At some point HBO will release a proper final-season trailer revealing more. Until then, here’s some basic setup we can tell you: Season 8 opens at Winterfell with an episode that contains plenty of callbacks to the show’s pilot. Instead of King Robert’s procession arriving, it’s Daenerys and her army. What follows is a thrilling and tense intermingling of characters — some of whom have never previously met, many who have messy histories — as they all prepare to face the inevitable invasion of the Army of the Dead.
7 seasons. 10 episodes. That’s about 700 hours of re-watching to do. You’ve got until April so you should be able to make it. It’s only right to get yourself in the mood to see Westeros and Winterfell for one final time.
