It’s that time again where two forces in Hip-Hop come together for a joint project. This time, it comes from none other than French Montana and Fetty Wap. Recently, the pairing spent a lot of time together over the Summer as both rappers were apart of Chris Brown’s “One Hell Of A Nite” tour. It’s clear that the duo formed a friendship as a full-length project has come to fruition. Titled, Cook Zoo, the mixtape fuses the names of French’s Coke Boys record label and Fetty Wap’s Zoo Gang team. Speaking with Billboard, French further dived in and discussed just where the inspiration for the mixtape came from.
As far as 2015 hip-hop goes, though, it’s not Drake and Future’s joint mixtapeWhat A Time To Be Alive that’s serving as the rapper’s primary inspiration. Instead, it’s his late Coke Boys colleague, Chinx, whose Welcome To JFK was released posthumously after the rapper was shot and killed earlier this year. “I feel like the [album with] biggest impact was Chinx’s album,” Montana says. “I watched him come up, and get to this point (rest in peace) before he passed away. He dropped his album and it was just like, I loved the work. I was with him the whole time.”
Fresh off the release of his self-titled debut album and French having his next studio album, Mac & Cheese: The Album, due out later this year, the energy and vibes from the body of work just may be top notch as their creative juices are at an all-time high. With Cook Zoo‘s release date coming next week, there’s no doubting that Hip-Hop fans across the world will be tuning in.
