Get ready to head back to the wizarding world once again. According to Variety, production on Fantastic Beasts 3 is set to begin in Rio de Janeiro sometime in early 2020.
Last year, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald didn’t perform up to expectations commercially or critically when it theaters. Shortly thereafter, Warner Bros. delayed production on the sequel in order to rework parts of it. No official release date was announced for some time and it became obvious that the expected 2020 date was no longer in the cards. However, back in April, the studio announced a November 12th, 2021 release date for the threequel. And by all intents and purposes that still appears to be the case.
The Crimes of Grindelwald made nearly $650 million at the worldwide box office. But, that was lower than expected against a reported budget of $200 million. There was also a fair amount of fan backlash at the film’s story and ending, which made some significant changes to the lore established through the seven original books and eight movies. The original plans for Fantastic Beasts included a five-film story but, it’s unclear if that is still the case.
Fantastic Beasts 3 is slated to hit theaters on November 12th, 2021.
