Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is firing back at U.S. Representative Jim Jordan. On Monday, May 20, the Fulton County District Attorney spoke to MSNBC’s Rachel Maadow about the House Judiciary Committee’s continued investigation of misconduct allegations connected to former President Donald Trump’s election interference case in Georgia.
“Jim Jordan has, time after time after time, attacked my office with no legitimate purpose,” she told Maadow.
“Anyone who knows Jim Jordan’s history knows that he only has the purpose of trying to interfere in a criminal investigation.”
Willis did not stop there. Not only did she criticize Jordan’s ability to govern, but the Fulton County District Attorney also called Jordan a clown while dismissing a separate state-level investigation regarding the matter.
“He has now turned his tricks to, he’s going to look at grant programs, which I invite him to do. And we have complied with his subpoenas, but yet he continues his attacks to try to interfere in a criminal investigation. All while his jurisdiction has one of the worst crime rates, has poverty issues,” she said.
“I bring that up at the federal level because now at the state level, they’ve decided to follow this clown’s lead, and they want to now try to interfere in an investigation.”
There is no love lost between the two. Earlier this year, Jordan threatened to hold Willis in contempt after issuing a subpoena requesting information about her use of federal funds.
“We appreciate that you have produced a narrow set of documents in response to the subpoena, but your compliance with the subpoena to date is deficient,” Jordan wrote.
“If you fail to do so, the Committee will consider taking further action, such as the invocation of contempt of Congress proceedings.”
Despite the investigation, Willis is up for re-election in November. As for the election interference trial, Willis had hoped to begin in August, but allegations of misconduct will seemingly push trial back into the fall at the earliest, if not 2025.
