Erykah Badu is the honoree of one of the show’s biggest awards.
The 2018 Soul Train Awards aired on BET Sunday night, and Erykah Badu was the recipient of the 2018 Soul Train Legend Award.
SZA presented the artist with the prestigious award, and Badu thanked her mother for supporting her throughout her decades-long career.
“Mother, thank you for always telling me that I was the best, no matter what happened. Sometimes I would get mad at you because so much was required of the best. I would dim my light and you would come right behind me and turn it back on every time. I reflect you in every way, thank you.”
Badu then thanked the soul train family, her own family, and recognized other fellow artists for inspiring her and helping her grow as an artist. The icon herself wrapped up her acceptance speech and performed a plethora of songs from her extensive catalog including “Green Eyes,” “Tyrone,” and “Other Side of the Game”.
