It’s looking more and more likely that Chris Bosh will not be playing basketball for the Miami Heat this season. The big man recently failed a physical for the team as he continues to attempt to comeback from a blood clot issue.
Bosh has been open about the whole process. It appears his relationship with the Heat has soured as he has had complaints about how Pat Riley has handled the issue. Bosh seems to feel that the team wants to force him out so that they can save cap space.
That may or may not be true but it certainly doesn’t seem to be the case for head coach Erik Spolestra. Spo has coached Bosh for six years now and is as close to him as anyone. He recently told reporters (as transcribed by Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald) that he wants that closeness to continue, regardless of how this situation works out:
“My thought’s don’t change. And they won’t change. I love Chris Bosh, his family. I said this so many times, Chris was very important to me as a head coach. With those teams, he was somebody I leaned on. That extended outside the lines. It’s something I really have enjoyed and my hope is that the relationship can continue.”
Bosh is clearly unhappy with his situation, not that that should be unexpected. But Erik Spolestra seems confident that he can maintain the relationship with his star player.
