By now, whether you watch or not, you have heard of Fox’s smash television series, ‘Empire’. Continuously breaking ratings records weeks at a time, the Empire Soundtrack was finally released last Tuesday, March 10th, alongside Madonna’s newest studio album, Rebel Heart. While Madonna sold more copies of her album with an estimated 116,000 copies sold versus Empire’s 107,000 copies, Empire was album to soar past the legendary Pop star as streaming is now included to Billboard’s chart formula. Including sales plus streaming (SPS) percentages, Empire Soundtrack is set to debut at #1 with 128,640 SPS, while Madonna will come in at #2 with 121,972 SPS. This will make Madonna’s first time missing the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 since 1998. Congrats are definitely in order for Empire as they are making a statement not only on the television screen, but in the music industry, too.
