Eight people were arrested overnight at Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, D.C. Of the five arrested, five have been charged with crowding or obstructing. Meanwhile, one was charged with simple assault, another was charged with threats to kidnap and the last person was charged with assaulting an officer.
At this time, it is unclear what led to the arrests. Throughout the night, there were reports of demonstrators allegedly blocking traffic near the plaza. However, there is no video of what may have escalated the demonstration to the point of arrest.

In previous weeks, demonstrators have accused law enforcement of escalating peaceful protests. Most notably, protesters were tear gassed as President Donald Trump headed toward a nearby church for a photo op.
More details regarding the arrest will be added to this story as more information becomes available.
