Dwyane Wade is reportedly looking to move on from the Chicago Bulls. Wade’s unrest should come as no surprise as the Bulls are projected to be a lottery team next season. The 35-year-old shooting guard spent his first 14 years with the Miami Heat. Wade helped take Miami to five NBA Finals winning three championships in that time.
Wade could rejoin the team that drafted him if he’s willing to agree to a couple of stipulations.
Following from Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald,
The Heat would be interested in Wade under certain circumstances, including if he agrees to a bench role and if he would be willing to play for Miami’s $4.3 million exception.
There’s no real incentive for Wade to accept those terms. If a buyout between he and Chicago is reached, Wade is expected to earn $20 million, at least. Wade is owed $24 million from the Bulls next year in salary. Both of those figures are well above what Miami is supposedly offering. Additionally, in a recent interview, Wade revealed that he would like to compete for a championship in the latter stages of his career. The Miami Heat cannot grant Wade the winning situation he wants.
Furthermore, Wade may not be “Flash” anymore, but to suggest he plays off the bench is going a bit far. Maybe Pat Riley is still harboring some ill feelings because of Wade’s departure from the team. If that is the case, there is no reason that Wade should put himself in another toxic situation akin to the one in Chicago. There’s an argument to be made, however, that Wade returning to the city he gave his best years would be special to see.
Earlier reports suggest that he could find his way to Cleveland. Such a move grants Wade a chance to play with former teammate and close friend LeBron James.
