Dwyane Wade and the Chicago Bulls agreed to a buyout earlier this week. Soon after, Wade joined LeBron James the Cleveland Cavaliers on a one-year $2.3 million contract.
The last time James and Wade shared a uniform was in 2014 when they both played for the Miami Heat. Wade’s days in the city dubbed Miami-Wade County seem like eons ago.
The three-time NBA champion wouldn’t mind retiring as a member of the team that drafted him 2003.
Following from the Associated Press,
“Miami, the door’s always unlocked,” Wade told AP. “One day I want to retire in a Miami Heat jersey. I don’t know how that will happen, but I definitely want to make sure than when I decide to hang it up, that jersey is on. Whether it’s being back there or signing a one-day deal like Paul Pierce, I want to make sure that I go out the way I came in.”
Wade spent his first 13 seasons with the Miami heat before parting ways during the 2016 offseason. The 34-year-old shooting guard won championships in two different eras with the team.
Wade’s relationship with Miami is one the greatest stories in the league. The Heat haven’t completely ruled out having him back, either.
However Wade returns to Miami, he is sure to be welcomed back with open arms.
For now, Wade has to focus on the task hand. Coming to Cleveland was as much about winning a championship as it was getting away from the Chicago Bulls.
Wade has expressed he would still like to compete for a championship in the twilight of his career. Retirement isn’t imminent for wade just yet as he looks to chase the ring for the fourth time.
In 60 games last season in Chicago, Wade averaged 18 points and almost four assists per game.
