One of the most enigmatic NBA players not only today but of this entire generation, many people may think the career of Dwight Howard hasn’t developed into what it should’ve.
Currently the man in the middle for the Charlotte Hornets, Howard was once one of the league’s best players during his early days in Orlando. This seemed to change when he left there and bounced around with a few teams before landing with Charlotte. Though Howard did say he played in a refreshed state of mind this season, his rollercoaster past in the NBA still effects him.
Howard recently sat down on ESPN’s The Jump and touched on a variety of different subjects regarding his ongoing 14-year career. With former Magic coach Stan Van Gundy out in Detroit and Charlotte in search of a head coach, Howard discusses a potential reunion and what he sees down the road with this Hornets team.
The veteran center insists that his success is all about the system, something that was tailored for him in Orlando and hasn’t been the case since. However with a season under his belt now in Charlotte, Howard envisions similar success for himself within their offense in coming years and believes he can get back to being the unstoppable force he once was.
Howard also admits that the business side of the NBA and his pursuit of top dollar contracts instead of finding a winning or fitting situation effected his love for the game. This was visibly apparent during his time with the Lakers, Rockets, and to a lesser extent, the Hawks two years ago.
Hopefully now in a situation he says is right for him, Dwight Howard can get back to being that dominant force he was almost a decade ago, something we actually saw glimpses of last season. You can watch Howard’s sitdown with The Jump below, video courtesy of ESPN on YouTube:
