The Western Conference is becoming interesting once again. The New Orleans Pelicans are now a force to be reckoned with after trading for former Kings’ center DeMarcus Cousins.
Cousins joins another former Kentucky Wildcat in Anthony Davis. The two big men are joining forces in what may be one of the best frontcourt duos of all time.
Another star NBA player is keeping a tab on the Pelicans as well and thinks highly of their potential. Here’s Kevin Durant on the trade, via Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle:
“I think it could be legendary,” Durant said after the Warriors’ shoot-around Thursday.
“Cous, I’m sure he didn’t even know he was getting traded until after the (All-Star) game,” Durant said. “That organization and that city are getting a great player. I think (Cousins and Davis) could do well together.”
“It’s good to see Cous in an environment where they actually want him,” Durant said. “It’s good to see AD get somebody else down there to kind of go through the trenches with him. It’ll be fun. If we do play them, it’ll be a great series.”
The new Pelicans have only played one game so far, losing in blowout fashion to the Houston Rockets. They have to make up for lost ground to reach the playoffs where they would likely meet KD’s Warriors in the first round.
It’s not immediately clear if Durant is going to team up with Cousins and Davis in NOLA after the upset Pelicans victory.
