Throughout the 2014-2015 NBA season, Drew Gooden was always taking on different roles as a member of the Washington Wizards. Some games he sat on the bench with a suit and tie, others he was dressed but did not play, and he even had games where he came off the bench as the sixth man.
Whatever Randy Wittman and his staff asked Gooden to do, he always took advantage of the role and completed it with the best of his abilities. Sometimes, Gooden did not even know if he would see the court, but if he did, he was always ready to make an impact and take advantage of the opportunity.
Following From Washington Post.
“But whatever my role is, I kind of came in with that mindset this season from having a suit on to playing a couple of minutes to not playing to helping out this team get wins in the playoffs. Whatever this organization needs me to do, I have proven that I can provide a punch when called on no matter how long I have played or how much I am playing. Whatever role that this organization needs me to take on, I have proven that I can do it and I will do it again.”
It sounds like the newly found stretch forward would love to remain as a member of the Washington Wizards as he continues to do whatever the Wizards ask of him. Although he wants to play more next season, Gooden obviously enjoyed his stay in DC, and wants another shot at a title as a veteran on this team.
Wherever Gooden goes this offseason, the team will be confident knowing they will have a big who can fill a lot of different roles for them. He did it successfully this past season in Washington and can do it anywhere else as well, but Wizards fans will certainly want to see the big man back in DC.
