The Golden State Warriors are in a little bit of a pickle in the NBA Finals. They are down 2-1 against the Cleveland Cavaliers heading into a hostile Quicken Loans Arena in Game 4, and their offense hasn’t been more stagnant. You usually see a fluid motion with these Warriors, of shots and fast-breaks. A key reason is their most improved player and their defensive back-bone Draymond Green. He has been horrible in the Finals shooting 4 of 17 in the last 2 games.
So what gives? According to Steve Kerr Dray has been dealing with back spasms. Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle:
Steve Kerr said Draymond Green has back spasms but should be able to play Game 4. He’s getting treatment right now.
Dray also commented on his injury:
Draymond Green shared w/ me his back “is locked up at all times- pain w/ explosion, jumping & contact”. Hurt it Game 2, 3rd qtr after fall.
Draymond hasn’t necessarily hit his stride in the Playoffs and the Finals he has really turned down the pressure from his jump shot. This has allowed for Cavaliers defenders to double up on Stephen Curry and allow Draymond to miss open shots. This can NOT continue for the Warriors. If they want to free up Stephen, which eventually leads to the open shots for Klay and Dray. That’s the Warriors offense, and they need to get back to basics. Game 4 on Thursday.
