For many, this year has been one of endurance. From the pandemic to an uptick in police killing of Black and brown people, anxiety, depression, violence and unrest have reached epic levels. Still, many push to endure as we spiral forward with our everyday lives. Through this pain and difficulty, beautiful stories, art and much more can be born. Drauve’s new project, Self Learning, is an example of just that.
Emerging out Pittsburgh, the musical duo of Victoria and Stephen moved out to Los Angeles to further their career. Little did they know, the world would turn upside down this year. From March through October, the two took time to develop their sound, write and put together a project that reflects all that they have experienced as they moved across the country.
“Self Improvement was written between March 2020 and October 2020. This time period was the most defining in our lives,” the two wrote.
“We push ourselves incredibly hard and we especially did that this year. For two people who deal with extreme anxiety, it was not easy to function during a global pandemic. Let alone, finish an EP.”
Thankfully, the two pushed through and delivered a project that is smooth in sound, but self-reflective in lyrical content. Check out the final product below.
