Just a few months ago, Drake made his debut at the Apollo Theater in New York, New York. Joined by several special guests throughout his two-night stay at the historic theater, the Toronto native ran through his endless catalog of hits. Through each performance, the OVO wordsmith would move in and out of different set designs that told the story of his career. Shortly thereafter, Drake found himself on a tropical island talking to his friend and collaborator. After spending two nights celebrating his legendary career at the Apollo Theater, he told the Quality Control artist that he was beginning to contemplate the idea of retirement.
“I think I’m at the point now where I just wanna, like — I feel like maybe we talked about this the other day, but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” he said.
While Drake didn’t outright say that he would retire, his recent performances accompanied by the comments illustrated above led some to believe that he would be making a transition out of music. His plan may be to move on to other endeavors outside of music, but he’s already making plans to be a fixture in pop culture throughout the upcoming summer. Days after teasing a new record via social media, the OVO superstar has unveiled a new record called “Search & Rescue.”
Produced by BYNX, “Search & Rescue” finds the Toronto crooning as he pleads for a woman to “take [him] off the market.” In true Drake fashion, the emotionally honest melodic track comes with its fair share of quotable and memorable moments. There are also less than stellar bars like “I know I’m a pit bull, but dale, mami.” He also comes through with clever bars like “I give you the world, but there are other planets too.” Not to mention, BYNX shines through with a subtle beat switch that gives the Toronto native the runway for the track’s ending.
“Take me off the market, take me off the map/I’m tryna hit the group chat and tell ’em it’s a/Come and rescue me,” he raps.
“Search & Rescue” sets the stage for Drake’s upcoming tour with 21 Savage. The It’s All A Blur Tour is set to begin on June 16, 2023. Until then, check out “Search & Rescue” below.
