The countdown continues as we’re only 8 days away from the release of Straight Outta Compton and merely hours away from the film’s soundtrack, Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre. As all signs are pointing to the fact that this film will rake in major dollars, Dr. Dre is looking at this moment as a way to give back to the city of Compton. In effort to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment center for the city, Dr. Dre announced that he will be donating all of his artist royalties accumulated from the album to help fuel this project.
“I feel it’s the right thing to do and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album,” Dre said. The mogul revealed that he’ll be working with Compton Mayor Aja Brown and her office on the center. “We’ve reached out to Aja Brown quite a few times in the last month or two,” Dre said. “I’ve been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn’t quite figure out what it was. She actually had this idea and she was already in the process of working on it. I said, ‘Boom, this is what we should do.'”
As the album is expected to open with huge numbers in its first week, along with the expected long-term success as fans have eagerly waited for new Dr. Dre material, one can assume that the contributions will be huge for this project. Major props to Dre for finding a way to give back. Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre will be released tonight, exclusively via iTunes. Apple Music will be hosting an exclusive stream at 6 p.m. PST/9 p.m EST. As if anyone didn’t need another reason to purchase the album, now we know the profits will help make a difference in someone’s live.
