Former President Trump claimed he is “completely innocent” after being criminally indicted late this afternoon. The historic indictment marks the first time a U.S. President has ever been criminally charged.
A grand jury in Manhattan has been investigating a $130,000 payment issued to adult film star Stormy Daniels on the eve of the 2016 election and former President Trump’s alleged role in this situation. Stormy Daniels claims she and former President Trump had an affair, even though Trump has continuously denied the affair.
“This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history,” Trump said in a statement.
“From the time I came down the golden escalator at Trump Tower, and even before I was sworn in as your President of the United States, the Radical Left Democrats – the enemy of the hard-working men and women of this Country – have been engaged in a Witch-Hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement.”
Former President Trump emphasizes that the charges would “backfire massively” on both President Joe Biden and Alvin Bragg (D), the Manhattan district attorney whose office is leading the investigation into former President Trump’s alleged actions.
“I believe this Witch-Hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden,” Trump said.
“The American people realize exactly what the Radical Left Democrats are doing here. Everyone can see it. So our Movement, and our Party – united and strong – will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these Crooked Democrats out of office so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
The indictment has thrown former President Trump’s bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination into muddy waters, and it’s unclear how this will play out on the campaign trail.
