Don Cheadle can’t get a break, man. Fresh off breaking records and defeating Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, now he’s gotta take on the Monstars. According to Deadline, Cheadle will be joining Lebron James in Space Jam 2. It’s unknown who he’ll be playing but I hope he’s slotted into the Bill Murray role and does something like this:
In all seriousness though, Cheadle will be joining an already-impressive cast comprised of mostly basketball stars. It was announced earlier this summer that Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard and Klay Thompson will appear in significant roles alongside WNBA royalty such as Diana Taurasi, Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike. Besides Cheadle, Sonequa Martin-Green is the only other actor attached to the film, that we know of. Martin-Green is set to play Lebron’s on-screen wife.
Outside the MCU, Cheadle appeared earlier this year in Showtime’s series, Black Monday. He’s also set to star in Don’t Look Deeper, a sci-fi drama for Quibi. That’s in pre-production now with no release date announced.
Production on Space Jam 2 is now underway. The film is set for release on July 16th, 2021.
