Netflix has unleashed the first trailer for the upcoming blaxploitation comedy, Dolemite Is My Name. Led by Eddie Murphy, the film strives to tell the story of Rudy Ray Moore. Moore is best known for his work on films such as B*A*P*S and the original Dolemite film released back in 1975.
Alongside Murphy, comedians such as Chris Rock, Mike Epps, Michael Keegan-Key and Craig Robinson will appear in the film. In addition, stars such as Wesley Snipes, T.I., Snoop Dogg, Titus Burgess and others will also appear in the Netflix project. Behind the scenes, Huste & Flow‘s Craig Brewer will direct the film.
The trailer opens up with Murphy’s character motivating himself to jump start his return to comedy. He says, “Whatever it takes, I’m ready to do it.” He adds, “I got to be totally outrageous.”
Later on, Murphy’s character, Rudy Ray Moore, develops his infamous catchphrase. He emphatically states, “Dolemite is my name, and f*cking up motherf*ckers is my game.”
Dolemite Is My Name is set to premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival. In the meantime, check out the trailer.
