I know that the Boston Celtics would love to get Blake Griffin from the Los Angeles Clippers. Could you imagine a starting 5 of Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, Blake Griffin, and new center Al Horford? That team would contend for best in the east, and possibly knock off the Cleveland Cavaliers.
It’d be fun to see that happen, but Doc Rivers recently told Scott Souza of the Providence Journal that these were nothing more than rumors. He even mentioned that the Boston media made them up:
Rivers dismissed the Griffin-to-Celtics rumors that briefly took off in July.
“We knew none of it was true,” he claimed. “We figured that was one of you
guys starting it here in Boston.
“The rumors are so bogus. That’s the problem. If the rumors had any truth to them, it would be hard to go to your player and say that there is no truth to them. Because I will never lie.”
While it would be fun to watch that Celtics team, I don’t think Rivers wants to break up his team in LA just yet. Blake Griffin is a free agent this summer, and I think Doc is going to try his best to persuade Blake to stay. Hopefully for the Clippers, they have a fantastic season and Blake stays in LA for a few more years to try and win a championship.
