UPDATE:
A Manhattan Federal judge has granted DMX the ability to travel for work on one condition; he must be accompanied by a sober coach.
This is a huge victory in this case. I hope X can earn to pay off the debt and return to regular life.
ORIGINAL:
DMX appeared in court earlier today (Aug. 11) for a hearing for violating conditions of bail. It was revealed that the Darkman failed multiple drug tests while on bail. He tested positive for cocaine four times and had weed and opiates in his system twice.
X had been out on $500,000 bail on a tax evasion charge. The hearing was set because he violated the terms by traveling to St. Louis to resolve a family matter without permission.
Judge Jed Rakoff said that DMX has “a rap sheet that does suggest more than a passing acquaintance with illegal drugs.”
Even though Judge Rakoff seemed irritated, he showed X leniency. He ordered DMX to house arrest with an ankle bracelet. Judge Rakoff stated that if X jumped bail again “it will be the end of his career and the end of living a decent life.”
It’s obvious that X has been battling drug addiction for years. Let’s just pray that he gets the help he needs before it’s too late. I’d hate for the story of DMX to end in a jail cell.
