One of my favorite actors of all time will be in DC’s upcoming Shazam movie. Djimon Hounsou will play the role of an ancient wizard in the upcoming flick that will be in the ever-expanding DC Universe. Directed by David F. Sandberg and starring Zachary Levi, as the 14-year old turned adult superhero with lightning strong powers, Shazam will debut in theatres in 2019.

Hounsou is set to star in the DC film but he is no rookie when it comes to superhero movies. He’s played a lead role in Guardians of the Galaxy, a role he’s slated to return for in Brie Larson’s upcoming Captain Marvel movie. Funny enough, Captain Marvel was the original name of ‘Shazam’ when he first debut in comics and there are a lot of parallels that can be drawn between the characters.

Hounsou has had a decorated career as an actor, starring in Gladiator alongside Russell Crowe and starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the African thriller Blood Diamond, so there is no doubt in my mind that he can handle the role of an ancient wizard.

With my expertise coming in DC Comics, I know that Shazam ultimately gets his powers from an ancient wizard that grants him the wisdom of Solomon as well as ridiculous superhuman ,strength. If you want to know what you can expect from the Zachar Levi movie coming out April 5th, 2019, check out the synopsis:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
