On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, attorneys representing the Southern District of New York and media mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will reconvene at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Courthouse as jury selection continues for a third day. If all goes according to plan, a jury is expected to be seated by the end of the third day. Thus far, the pool of candidates has been widdled down to a group of 45 would-be jurors, including an HBO staffer and a physical education teacher. However, only 12 jurors and six alternates will be selected.
The 12 jurors will hear arguments attempting to condemn and defend the record producer as he faces life in prison. In September, Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and William S. Walker, the Acting Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations, announced that Combs would be charged with a litany of offenses, including racketeering, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice among others.
“As alleged in the Indictment, for years, Sean Combs used the business empire he controlled to sexually abuse and exploit women, as well as to commit other acts of violence and obstruction of justice. Today, he is charged with racketeering and sex trafficking offenses. If you have been a victim of Combs’ alleged abuse – or if you know anything about his alleged crimes – we urge you to come forward. This investigation is far from over,” Williams said in September.
Since September, Combs has pleaded not guilty and turned himself into authorities as he awaited trial at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Opening arguments are set to begin Monday, May 12, 2025, and the trial is expected to run for approximately two months.
