This has been a season of tanking for the Phoenix Suns; they have a record of 20-59, the worst in the league. Guard Devin Booker believes that a shakeup is coming this summer, he tells Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated:
“It’s only up now,” Booker said. “This summer is a big summer for us. You hear our GM [general manager Ryan McDonough] come out and say he’s going to be super aggressive. We have young talent, we have a lot of picks, with a lot of money too. So I think there’s definitely going to be a lot of moves made this summer.”
One move that the Suns are all but guaranteed to make is the hiring of a coach. After they fired Earl Watson three games into the season, leaving Booker disappointed, they appointed assistant Jay Triano as interim head coach. Booker and teammate Alex Len both said in December that they want the team to keep Triano on as a permanent head coach. There are some top-tier candidates out there, though, and it’s hard to imagine the Suns keeping Triano in a permanent role.
Other than their draft-lottery position, the biggest bright spot for the Suns this season has been the emergence of Booker as a star. He’s made a hell of a third-year leap, making huge strides with his ball-handling ability and averaging 24.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per contest while shooting 38.3 percent from beyond the arc. All of those numbers are career-highs.
