This year’s San Diego Comic-Con has come to a close, but Marvel is continuing to make headlines. Shortly after showcasing the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer and rolling out plans for phase five, the MCU has set the stage for another chapter in the Avengers saga. Following the success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Destin Daniel Cretton has been tapped to lead Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Marvel has not revealed the cast for the upcoming film, but the title suggests that Jonathan Majors will appear as Kang The Conqueror. As of now, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is set to debut on May 2, 2025.
The upcoming Avengers films are expected to differ from the previous two Avengers films. The last two Avengers films were directed by the Russo brothers. In contrast, Cretton will direct the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but he will not lead the following Avengers film. Marvel has not yet identified a director for the second Avengers film of phase five.
As previously mentioned, Marvel has been making a ton of noise throughout the month of July. Not long ago, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor: Love and Thunder debuted atop the box office charts. More recently, Marvel rolled out a trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and a teaser for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Phase four is set to end this winter with the release of the latest Black Panther film along with a Halloween special and The Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special. Phase five will kick off in early 2023 with the debut of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
