From proclaiming to be a superteam to being the current thirteenth seed in the Eastern Conference, this season has not gone according to Derrick Rose’s preseason assertion. Although every team had their ups and downs, the Knicks have certainly had much more downs after falling from the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference to the thirteenth since December.
The Knicks are now missing the playoffs for the fourth straight season and are proving beyond doubt to be the league’s most dysfunctional franchise. They are currently sitting at 29-47 and Phil Jackson is taking plenty of heat for it with his questionable free agency signings plus his persistence in running the Triangle offense.
Derrick Rose stated the following to the media.
“Any year in the league it’s about whoever catches a rhythm. No matter how your season is going, or where you’re at in your season, you can always catch a rhythm and they caught theirs at the right time, winning 12 or 13 games (in a row). And they’ve been playing great basketball ever since then. We never caught that luck this year.”
The Heat started off the season 11-30 and now they are currently 37-39 while in the playoff picture. They’ve also defied their odds while getting the most out of their players in order to get this far. Especially after Justise Winslow suffered a season-ending injury early on in the season.
At Friday’s shootaround, Rose went told reporters (in reference to the Heat):
“I think that we’re more talented, but it shows that basketball is a team sport.”
He also went on to talk about their struggles on the defensive end of the floor, which has been a tragedy all season long.
“Defensively, we weren’t that consistent this year,” he said. “And it shows with our record.”
