Though the Cleveland Cavaliers have turned a corner with their play in recent weeks, the beginning of this stolln remains filled with unanswered questions for point guard Derrick Rose. With his extensive injury history and the Cavs stumbling out of the gates, Rose pondered his NBA future as he spent time away from the team. The consistent injuries Rose has had to deal with have taken its tool on his mental health and that doesn’t seem to be coming to an end anytime soon.
Rose eventually made his return to the Cavs but has since been rehabbing his ankle injury as he tries to get back on the court. Now, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the former-MVP has a bone spur in his left ankle, something that may require surgery:
Derrick Rose, speaking to the media for the first time since his return to the Cavs, revealed he has a bone spur in his left ankle and acknowledged that a procedure may be necessary if his rehab does not take.

If Derrick Rose were to go ahead and undergo surgery, you’d have to wonder where that takes his career. Still just 29 years old, Rose has gotten more than his fair share of operations done during his career, potentially adding another one on top of it while his mental state is this fragile could very well mark the end of what was years ago the most promising future in the NBA.
With Rose still out with the ankle ailment and Isaiah Thomas inching closer to a return from his banged-up hip, Cleveland will continue trying to get by with Jose Calderon as the only healthy point guard on the roster. Of course, LeBron James handles a large chunk of the playmaking duties so a true point guard isn’t really requisite.
With Derrick Rose’s season and career now largely up in the air, expect his ankle to garner plenty of attention as he figures out how to maneuver through this complicated decision.
