Many mock draft boards predict the New Orleans Saints will select Colorado Quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the ninth overall pick and it’s for good reason.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, New Orleans Saints Quarterback Derek Carr is currently working through a shoulder injury that may sideline him for the 2025 season. Furthermore, current reports from multiple outlets suggest Carr may need to undergo surgery to repair the shoulder injury.
Carr has spent two seasons in The Big Easy after leaving the Las Vegas Raiders following the 2022-2023 season. In his first year with the franchise, he led the Saints to a 9-8 record and a second place finish in the NFC South while throwing for 25 touchdowns and 3,878 yards. Last season, the Saints shot out to a 2-0 start before losing seven straight. However, the Saints were able to bounce back afterward and win three of their next four. Along the way, Carr fractured her left hand, sustained a concussion and missed seven games. In addition, he dealt with a lingering shoulder injury he sustained in 2023, but now, it seems that it is catching up with him.
Entering the 2025-2026 NFL season, the Saints quarterback group features Spencer Rattler and Ben DiNucci. The team also has $27 million in cap space.
