Last offseason, many(myself included) thought that the Denver Nuggets were going to turn some heads. They had an incredibly deep roster, and some very good talent in the starting lineup such as Ty Lawson, Arron Afflalo, and Kenneth Faried. The Nuggets disappointed, however. Afflalo was playing poorly, and they dealt him to Portland. They also traded promising center Timofey Mozgov to Cleveland. Lawson and Faried were growing impatient and tired of losing.
Now, the Nuggets are trying to build a better, younger roster, but keep the depth that excited fans last summer. They drafted Emmanuel Mudiay, sent Ty Lawson and his drinking problem to Houston, and re-signed Jameer Nelson , Wilson Chandler, and Danilo Gallinari.
Now, the Nuggets are planning to use their remaining cap space to re-sign unrestricted free agent Darrell Arthur.
From Christopher Dempsey of The Denver Post:
Using some of the financial flexibility they gained in the recent Ty Lawson trade, the Nuggets are finalizing a contract extension with forward Danilo Gallinari and will also sign free agent Darrell Arthur, according to NBA sources.
We don’t know how much the Nuggets will pay Arthur yet, but they can’t afford to pay him too much. Arthur, a 6’9″ power forward, is a good defensive player, which is something that the Nuggets could use. He has averaged 6.5 points and 3.6 rebounds.
