The reigning Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos open training camp looking to repeat in 2016. Both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler are no longer on the roster making this an entertaining team to watch during camp. Outside of that Von Miller’s record contract was the biggest story this offseason for Denver. What should we watch for during Broncos camp?
3 Position Battles To Watch:
- Quarterback: Mark Sanchez vs. Trevor Siemian vs. Paxton Lynch
Head coach Gary Kubiak kind of gave this one away as Mark Sanchez will get the first opportunity to start. Trevor Siemian apparently isn’t very far behind and first rounder Paxton Lynch could be an option later in the season as he continues to develop.
2. Runningback: C.J. Anderson vs. Ronnie Hillman vs. Devonte Booker
To the surprise of many I think the rookie Devonte Booker is probably the best back on the roster day one. I wasn’t very surprised to see C.J. Anderson struggle last season as I always believe he is on par with Ronnie Hillman. This is probably a voidable back field fantasy wise despite the fact that Gary Kubiak always turns out good tail backs.
3. Inside Linebacker: ???
Finding replacements for Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan are the biggest opstacles for the defense this season. The defensive line hole looks to be filled in by Jared Crick and Adam Gotsis but the inside linebacker spot is a huge mystery. Someone is going to be Brandon Marshall’s counterpart and that could end up being a number of guys as they don’t have a proven replacement at the moment. Shaq Barrett is the likely starter at this point.
Ready To Breakout: Bradley Roby
Roby, a first round pick in 2014, is my pick to really breakout. Roby has the luxury to play with Aqib Talib and Chris Harris that will only seemingly help him. While he has only recorded 3 interception in two seasons, I expect that number to sky rocket. Roby did record 10 pass deflections in 2015.
Fantasy Sleeper: Virgil Green
Green has watched Julius Thomas and Owen Daniels in recent years have productive seasons for Denver. After paying his due diligence in the blocking game I expect Green to get his opportunity to be a prime pass catcher. If not rookie tight end from Iowa Henry Krieger-Coble could be a guy to watch for.
Rookie To Watch: Paxton Lynch
I don’t know if Paxton Lynch will get a chance to start and regular season games in 2016, but he is surely must see TV during the preseason. Lynch reminds me of Joe Flacco and could become the best quarterback in the entire draft class.
