The New Orleans Saints have promoted defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to be their new Head Coach after Sean Payton’s retirement. While several candidates were considered and interviewed for the job the Saints have decided to go with a familiar face. Staying in the house can have some benefits and Allen did learn directly under Sean Payton while in New Orleans. This begins a new era for the New Orleans Saints who under their new Head Coach will once again have several cap space issues they need to work out for the season.
Saints have informed their defensive coordinator Dennis Allen that they are hiring him as their next head coach, sources tell ESPN.
Once again Allen replaces Sean Payton, minus the interim title.

This was the final head coaching vacancy this cycle in the NFL and now focus for each team can shift to retaining players, free agency, and the 2022 NFL Draft. Dennis Allen and the Saints still have a few things to work out and it revolves around what they will do with the offense. Sean Payton’s system was different, quirky, and would be hard to run without him. The team will have to answer those questions moving forward.
Dennis Allen will have control over his staff. So, there is no requirement to retain anyone.

The Saints have a solid roster with some issues at the quarterback position. If they can address a few things then they may be NFC South title contenders the first year under Allen’s leadership.
