The New Orleans Pelicans knew what they were getting when they traded for DeMarcus Cousins; one of the NBA’s best but most fiery talents who, with a quarter of the season still to play, will receive a suspension for every other technical foul he picks up. Unfortunately, Cousins picks up more techs than any other active NBA player. His latest came just 32 seconds into the Pelicans’ game against the Thunder when Cousins responded to a push from behind by giving Steven Adams a shove. Cousins will sit out the Pelicans’ game vs. the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, The NBA announced in an official release:
New Orleans Pelicans forward/center DeMarcus Cousins has been suspended one game without pay for receiving his 18th technical foul of the 2016-17 season, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

Cousins received his most recent technical foul with 11:28 remaining in the first quarter of the Pelicans’ 118-110 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Feb. 26. Cousins will serve his suspension on March 1 when the Pelicans host the Detroit Pistons at Smoothie King Center.
Under NBA rules, any player or coach will be suspended without pay following his 16th technical foul. After that, he will again be suspended for an additional game for every two more technicals he is whistled for.
