The Sacramento Kings made a couple of interesting trades on draft day.
First, the Kings traded guard Marco Belinelli for the 22nd overall pick. The Kings then traded away the 8th overall pick (with which they drafted Marquese Chriss) for multiple other draft picks.
One of those picks was used to draft Greek center (and relatively unknown player) Georgios Papagiannis. The pick was certainly a surprising one considering the Kings already have DeMarcus Cousins manning that position.
And it was made even stranger when Cousins tweeted as the draft was going on:
It’s obviously not my intent to read into this but WELP.
It certainly does not appear like Boogie liked the Kings’ draft day strategy. And that makes sense. Cousins is ready to finally start winning in Sacramento and trading down in the draft shows that the Kings are more so looking to add assets and projects. The pick itself does not lend much confidence to the front office.
The Kings continue to be a churning rumor mill and a crazy situation. And DeMarcus Cousins continues to be in the center of it all, both on and off the court.
Now, a few days later DeMarcus Cousins said that his tweet was due to bad timing while he was taking a ‘hot sculpting class. Sure.
Following from Ian Begley of ESPN New York.
DeMarcus Cousins explains his tweet on Draft night: "Bad timing," he said. "It sounds ridiculous, but I was in a hot sculpting class."
