DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins is a top-15-or-so talent in the NBA. Maybe better. There’s no denying that. His strength lends to a nearly unstoppable bully-ball style inside, and his soft touch makes him a lethal threat from midrange – and even out beyond the arc these days. His personality, however, is apparently a turn-off to many teams. Cousins is expressive and can be petulant. He consistently leads the NBA in technical fouls. Presumably for those reasons, around half of the NBA’s 30 teams have a “No Boogie” policy, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe:
At least half the league has (or claims to have) an ironclad “No Boogie” rule.
The fact that a number of teams have a strict policy against acquiring Cousins despite his talent and on-court impact speaks volumesabout how serious his off-court problems really are.
Cousins was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans from the Sacramento Kings over All-Star Weekend of last season.
In the 17 games that he played for New Orleans last year, he averaged 24.4 points, 12.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three-point range.
