DeMarcus Cousins may be one of the most misunderstood players in the NBA. The Sacramento Kings are a franchise that has oozed with dysfunction ever since the day Cousins was taken fifth overall in the 2010 NBA Draft. The relationship between Boogie and the Kings front office was a confusing one throughout his six-year Sacramento-tenure as it seemed Cousins was always involved in trade rumors of some sort despite reassurance that he wasn’t going to get dealt.
On the court, Cousins was as productive as any big in the entire league, consistently posting some of the most impressive numbers we’ve seen in a long time. However, the damaged relationship between the Kentucky product and his indecisive front office only made things worse when Cousins let his emotions get the best of him, which happened frequently.
While the talent was indisputable, the perceived ‘baggage’ that Cousins came with may have lowered the Kings’ trade options, as they were forced to settle for a seemingly one-sided offer with the New Orleans Pelicans. This morning, Boogie spoke to a few reporters before getting on his flight heading to New Orleans:

Cousins also posted a heartfelt farewell to the people and the city of Sacramento on his Instagram account:
Obviously, despite him not always seeing eye-to-eye with the Kings front office, his love for Sacramento and his fans has never wavered. With Boogie and his New Orleans Pelicans slated to travel to Sacramento in a little over a month on March 31st, we should expect nothing but a warm welcome for Cousins.
