John Wall had a wonderful season at Kentucky, and ended up being drafted 1st overall in 2010. Five picks later, the Sacramento Kings drafted superstar center DeMarcus Cousins, Wall’s Kentucky teammate. This pair was a dynamic duo in college, often connecting on alley-oops and other big plays.
In the NBA, neither of these guys has found true success. Sure, DeMarcus Cousins has established himself as a premier big man, but he has never played in the playoffs. Wall is also a premier point guard, but his team has made the playoffs just once since drafting him.
Both of these guys want to win, so why not join up again and build a winner? Recently, both of them expressed interest in playing with one another. From the NY Post’s Candace Buckner:
“We talk about it all the time,” Wall said with a smile, after his Wizards defeated Cousins and the Sacramento Kings in overtime, 101-95.
Hours before the two went to dinner together, Cousins, playing coy while in a perky mood, expressed similar thoughts.
“[Do we] talk about playing with one another? Is that your question?” Cousins asked a reporter, then grinning big just like Wall, “It’s come up.”
I can say that I would love to see this duo again. They were exceptional in college, and in the NBA they would be one of the top duos in the league. They would surely contend, and maybe even make deep playoff runs together. The question is, on what team? In Sacramento, they would have to face the Warriors, Clippers, and Spurs potentially in the playoffs, while in Washington they may have an easier schedule, and they would have the help of Bradley Beal. It surely is an interesting conversation, and it would be fun to see these two together again.
