In an interview with the Athletic’s Sham Charania, DeMarcus Cousins discussed how he and Anthony Davis often talk about last year’s pairing during Cousins’ stint with the New Orleans Pelicans. Boogie described the whole situation as ‘fucked up.’
“I think about our pairing all the time,” Cousins said. “Me and AD talk about it. It’s fucked up.”
Last year during the All-Star weekend, Davis explained how he believed the Pelicans could make the NBA Finals if Cousins had remained healthy all season. Since then, Boogie has also expressed how their pairing in New Orleans could’ve been ‘something great.’
“It could’ve been something great, something special, but other people had different things in mind. That’s out of our control, and you never know what’ll happen later on down the line.”
When discussing his free agency experience this past summer, Cousins explained how many teams, including the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans, ‘slammed the door shut’ on him. A stance he’s taken since signing with the Warriors.
“The people I reached out to … man, the teams I was talking to, and how they slammed the phone in my face,” Cousins says. “They all slammed the door shut on me. I wish I could share those conversations. But it’s done with. I reached out to teams with the same offer as Golden State, just to see.”
It’s now been two games since the all-star big man made his season debut with the Golden State Warriors last Friday against the Los Angeles Clippers. In those two games, Boogie has averaged 11.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and four assists on 35 percent shooting.
