DeMar DeRozan has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the young NBA season. Coming off a career year including the best season by the Toronto Raptors in franchise history, the shooting guard has taken his game to an even higher level.
DeRozan’s work ethic has been raved about for years; it’s no wonder that he has been able to improve even after a near-max contract and in his eighth season in the NBA.
As a testament to his hard work, Spalding has created a new spot featuring DeRozan’s offseason workouts called “Never Finished.” In it, DeRozan talks about his beginnings growing up in Compton and why he continues to work as hard as he does.
DeRozan is currently leading the league in scoring at 31.4 points per game while shooting 48.8 percent from the field – the best mark of his career since his rookie year. He is also putting up 5.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
The Raptors two-guard is a divisive player among many NBA fans. He is a throwback to older two-guards who made their living in the midrange. His game is usually not only inefficient (by star-level standards) but aesthetically unpleasing.
But there is no denying that DeMar DeRozan, with a career high .566 true shooting percentage, has been effective for the 8-5 Raptors.
