Have you ever felt completely alone in a room full of people? It’s an uneasy feeling that’s hard to explain or put into written form. Thankfully, there is a way to describe it in a musical format and rising singer-songwriter Debbie has found a way to do that with “Cherry Wine.”
“Sometimes I feel alone in a room full of people – it’s like the ultimate brain fog, and I can’t seem to get past my mental block and just socialize,” Debbie said about her newest track.
“Cherry Wine is me talking about how I can be awkward at times and need some dutch courage (aka Cherry Wine) in order to relax and get comfortable,” she adds.
In her purest form, Debbie lets the listener in as she describes these awkward moments in a soulful manner.
“Am I too late to the party? Tell them don’t start without me. Take your time. Give me five [minutes] and I’ll be right there. I’ll be around the corner. When I’m outside, I’ll call you. I’m feeling shy. Don’t leave my side,” she sings.
“Tonight, I’m not sure I want to be out with all these people. No, they don’t seem my type [of people]. Can you pour me something deep? I think I’m going to need something for the edge tonight. My sweet cherry wine, I need you by my side because I’m feeling the pressure tonight.”
Social anxiety is an ugly, yet very human feeling that plagues many of us, myself included. Somehow, Debbie’s delicate voice makes it all sound so beautiful. In many ways, “Cherry Wine” is a standout track because it sounds like so many of us could have written it and it feels like Debbie is singing on our behalf.
