The end of DeAndre Jordan’s tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers might be coming to an end, for real this time. The former All-Star center had flirted with the Dallas Mavericks in the past but a last minute change of heart kept him in Los Angeles with Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and the Clippers. But just about three years later, Jordan finds himself in a similar situation but the same cast of teammates are not around to convince him to stay.
Jordan has reportedly decided to opt out and the Mavericks are viewed as his destination this summer. The two sides were reportedly close to agreeing to a possible trade similar to what landed Chris Paul in Houston last year but nothing materialized from it.
Following comes from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan will decline the $24.1 million player option on his contract for next season, clearing the way for him to likely sign a free-agent deal with the Dallas Mavericks, league sources told ESPN.
Jordan and the Mavericks aren’t allowed to discuss or negotiate a deal until July 1, but both sides are well past Jordan’s change of heart on a Dallas free-agency commitment in 2015 and prepared to partner together, league sources said.
Mavs fans might be excited but they probably won’t breathe a sign of relief until he actually signs the contract or tweets himself taking a selfie with Mark Cuban.
