On Friday, April 11, University of Tennessee Volunteers Wide Receiver Dayton Sneed entered the transfer portal. The 6’0 redshirt sophomore wide receiver out of Donelson Christian Academy in Nashville has three years of eligibility remaining.
“First I want to thank god for everything he has blessed me with. I am forever grateful for the University of Tennessee,” Sneed wrote. “All of the relationships I’ve made with players, staff, and academics I will value forever. In order to continue pursuing my long-term goals, I will be entering the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.”
Sneed led Donelson Christian Academy to a 12-1 record and a state championship in 2021, setting the school record for receiving yards in a single game along the way. Since enrolling at the University of Tennessee in January 2023, he has caught a total of two passes for 19 yards. Now, he’ll look for his next opportunity at a new university.
However, Sneed may still take a trip or two to Knoxville in the near future. Sneed’s younger brother, Carson, is a four-star tight end committed to the Volunteers. It is unclear Dayton’s decision to enter the transfer portal will impact his younger brother’s commitment to the university.
After losing in the first round of the College Football Playoff last season, the Volunteers, minus Sneed, will kickoff the upcoming season on August 30, 2025 in Syracuse, New York against the Orange.
