To say the Cleveland Cavaliers have had an interesting off-season would be an understatement since their loss to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. To start things off, the Cavs and their GM David Griffin parted ways when the two couldn’t see eye to eye. Then, the news that shocked everyone came out that All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving had requested a trade.
With so much turmoil, the Cavs have been busy putting out fires left and right this off-season. Today, Ex-Cavs GM David Griffin joined ESPN’s The Jump to discuss his thoughts on the Irving situation.
Following from ESPN’s The Jump.
“The absolute worst thing this guy could have done was pretend to be all-in and sink the ship from within. Most guys don’t have the courage to do what he did.”
Griffin went onto talk about what the exact motives for Irving’s request could mean and how he may portray himself as a player.
“I see this as him looking for a fit for himself, to take the next step in his career. I think this is a guy who wants to know how good he can be. LeBron casts a very large shadow over an organization. And most of it is really, really positive. You know you are expected to win a championship by way of example. But what that doesn’t always allow is for a player like Kyrie to test his boundaries and see how good he can really be, and can I really be the front man of a team like that.”
