The Memphis Grizzlies are the last team in the NBA to find a Head Coach after the past 2 weeks of Coaching Frenzy which basically rumoured any available to Coach as a plausible replacement. Now, Heat Assistant Coach David Fizdale is rumored to be a serious candidate as the Grizzlies next coach.
According to Marc Stein of ESPN:
Miami Heat assistant coach David Fizdale’s candidacy ?for the Memphis Grizzlies’ coaching job is gaining steam, according to league sources.
One source went so far as telling ESPN.com on Tuesday night that Fizdale had moved into the lead in Memphis’ fluid search, which initially targeted former Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel, who instead took the Orlando Magic job.
He was an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks from 2004-2008, later moving on to the Heat in 2008, leading to his Head Assistant Coaching job this year. The Heat lost in 7 games this year to the Toronto Raptors who advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time, but Fizdale helped develop a Heat cast mixed with talented rookies and savy veterans into a playoff threat in the East without the help of Chris Bosh. Impressive is an understatement, thanks to Erik Spoelestra and his coaching staff and now Fizdale is getting the recognition.
With most of the top coaching candidates taken, the Grizzlies are trying to find a coaching that can help them no matter the situation next year. With Mike Conley a free agent and a disappointing end to their season, the circumstances might be different for Fizdale if he were to take on the coaching job.
