After the Houston Rockets were bounced in a hotly contested seven-game Western Conference Finals series against the Golden State Warriors, there was little doubt that they would be back again for their revenge.
GM Daryl Morey has the same mindset, as he’s still gunning for the top dog Warriors despite coming up short this season. Morey recently discussed his obsession with taking down the Warriors with ESPN’s Cassidy Hubbarth and it’s fair to say his determination has not wavered in the slightest.

Coming so close to taking down the juggernaut that is the Golden State Warriors, the bitterness has to still be there for Daryl Morey and the rest of his Rockets team. As he pointed out, it’s obvious that winning a ring in today’s NBA goes through them, so constructing a roster capable of matching up with Golden State’s should be on the top of everyone’s to-do list.
In order for the Rockets to make another run at dethroning the Warriors out West, they will have to keep largely the same roster intact while also acquiring a few worthy additions. However, keeping this same roster alone will be a challenge in and of itself.
Both Chris Paul and Clint Capela are set to hit free agency this summer, though the latter of the two is of the restricted variety. It all starts with retaining those two then somehow finding a way to add more talent, though their financial situation will be tight as ever by then.
Of course, the Rockets have also been mentioned in the upcoming LeBron James sweepstakes but this also remains a longshot at the very best. Though they came painfully close this year, (and had injury luck been on their side we may be having a whole different discussion) it’s clear Daryl Morey and the Rockets are far from finished challenging the NBA’s cream of the crop.
