Earlier today the Sacramento Kings annouced that point guard Darren Collison is going to undergo surgery regarding his right hip flexor strain. This coming after Darren Collison met with and was examined by a specialist in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Collson is scheduled to meet with Dr. William Meyers Monday in Philadelphia. Collison’s surgery is likely to be scheduled for Tuesday. The timetable to return will be between three and six weeks. That would mean that Darren Collison would be back with three games left in the season. Which means that Collison will more than likely be done for the season.
Sacramento Kings head coach George Karl was frustrated but optimistic regarding Collison’s injury. Karl stated “Injuries are part of a good team. Use it as a crutch and you’re not going to get any better.”
The injury to Darren Collison means an up in playing time for newly acquired Andre Miller as well as promising prospect Ray McCallum. Both have filled in the past seven games for the Kings as Collison has sat out.
Andre Miller was recently brought to Sacramento from the Washington Wizards in a deal involving Ramon Sessions.
Darren Collison is averaging 16.1 points per game as well as 5.6 assists per game. Andre Miller is averaging 3.7 points per game and almost three assists a game during limited time in Washington behind John Wall. Ray McCallum is averaging almost five points per game and 1.2 assists coming off the bench for the Kings this season.
The Kings currently hold a 20-35 record, good enough for fourth place in the Western Conferences’ Pacific Division, and losing their third highest scorer on the team doesn’t help them out very much.
