Matchroom Boxing and DAZN have set the stage for their next fight night in July. On July 1, Dalton Smith and Sam Maxwell will meet in a battle of super lightweight contenders at Utilita Arena Sheffield. The winner will walk away as the super lightweight Commonwealth champion in the U.K.
Hailing from Liverpool, Maxwell is a former WBO European and British Champion with a record of 17-1 with 11 knockouts. After starting off his career with 17 straight victories, Maxwell suffered his first knockout loss at the hands of Alejandro Meneses. Now, he’s looking to bounce back by handing Smith his first loss.
“It is every boxer’s dream to headline a massive show, so to get the opportunity to do so on a Matchroom Boxing card shown live around the world on DAZN is amazing,” Maxwell said.
“My Commonwealth belt is on the line but I’m looking forward to hearing, ‘AND THE NEW’ when I regain the British Title. I believe no one in the world can beat me when I am at my best. I can’t wait for fight night. The atmosphere is going to be unreal and my fans will definitely be heard.”
At 26 years old, Smith is entering his prime as a super lightweight contender. He picked up the British super lightweight title in August 2022. Since then, he’s secured decision victories against Kaisee Benjamin and Billy Allington.
“It will be an honour to win the Lonsdale belt outright on July 1 in my home city and write my name into the history books, as well as picking up the Commonwealth Title,” Smith said.
“Every British fighter dreams of winning the Lord Lonsdale Challenge Belt when they start out, so to win it for keeps will be a massive box ticked for me as I then kick on.”
? Announced: Dalton Smith will face Sam Maxwell for the British and Commonwealth super-lightweight titles on July 1st in Sheffield.
